In 1914, James Joyce published ‘The Dead’: a story of love and loss, but also of memory and Irish identity, set during a winter gathering. More than a century later, its final image of snow falling ‘upon all the living and the dead’ has drifted far beyond Joyce’s Dublin and out into our modern, fragmented world.



For its fourth consecutive anthology, Upon All the Living, Stories We Tell gathered twelve international Stockholm-based writers and tasked them with breathing new life into ‘The Dead’ through their cultural identities.



Each of the twelve stories takes its own shape, texture and tone, drifting through Galicia and Brazil, Afghanistan and India, Congo and Poland, Iran and Sweden before drifting onward to unknown nations, ancient empires and cultures of the future, covering the common ground of what it means to belong.
